Cape Town

DAY 1 - 4

Set at the confluence of the Indian and Atlantic oceans and backed by the iconic Table Mountain, the bustling city of Cape Town presents an alluring combination of drawcards. Day Notes

Day 1

Exploring Cape Town and Table Mountain

Spend the day touring Cape Town and iconic Table Mountain. Your tour is with a private guide and at your own pace picking out the attractions which interest you. Typically highlights include, the Houses of Parliament, the Castle (built between 1666 and 1679, this is South Africa’s oldest building), the lively Green Market Square with its daily market, the Company Gardens and of course Table Mountain which will give you spectacular views over the city and Peninsula (depending on the weather). On the descent, you can stop at the Bo Kaap, traditionally home to the Cape Malay community, with its cobbled streets and brightly coloured houses. Note that this tour can be done in the morning or the afternoon – the choice is yours.

Day Notes

Day 2

Cycling - Half Day Peninsula

Cycling Peninsula – Cycle through the Cape of Good Hope reserve for a sensual immersion of the peninsula’s unique natural environment.

Day Notes

Day 3

Sea Kayaking

Enjoy a salt-kissed adventure as you paddle out onto the sea with an expert guide. They will share their skills and insight into the region’s unique marine life with you. The naval hamlet of Simon’s Town is located on the False Bay coast of the Cape Peninsula. You’ll paddle past the civilian and Naval Harbour and out to Boulders Beach. The double kayaks are very stable and perfect for those with no paddling experience. During the whale season from July to December, the Southern Right whale frequents Cape Town’s shores, which allows you the possibility of seeing them in their natural habitat.

Destination

Franschhoek

DAY 4 - 7

Set just over an hour from Cape Town, within the inspiring landscapes of the Cape Winelands, Franschhoek is a heritage town and a world-renowned food and wine destination. Travellers could choose to focus their visit on any one aspect alone – nature, cuisine or culture – and find plenty to keep them busy.

The estates here attract wine experts from around the globe with their Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cap Classique sparkling wine (among others). Five-star restaurants alongside the cellars are surrounded by the same jaw-dropping valley scenes that have brought artists and writers to the area for centuries.

A superb literary festival takes place around May every year, and, combined with the town’s Cape Dutch manor houses, fascinating museums, and charming boutiques, makes Franschhoek a wonderful place to visit in winter. Summer provides endless hiking, cycling and other outdoor opportunities among the lush farmlands and mountains.

Hoanib River

DAY 7 - 10

Where Kaokoland meets the Skeleton Coast, in western Namibia, the 270-kilometre-long Hoanib River is one of the last water oases in the country, providing a haven for numerous animals. Home to 75% of Namibia’s endemic species, including the largest numbers of desert-adapted, free-roaming elephants, lions, and rhinos in the world, as well as zebra, kudu, and giraffe, this is a truly exceptional and awe-inspiring place.

Visitors can enjoy taking a wonderful four-wheel-drive route, going on adventurous hiking trails, running down enormous sand dunes, or climbing massive, strangely shaped rock formations as well as several guided nature walks.

Hartmann Valley

DAY 10 - 13

Stunningly remote, the Hartmann Valley is a desolate yet entrancing moonscape of sand and rock. Located in the extreme northwest of Namibia, the region offers a profound sense of wilderness and unusual juxtaposition of habitats, as the Kunene River nurtures a band of lush vegetation amidst one of the driest deserts on earth, while sea mists creep in from the coast, and waves upon waves of dunes beckon to be slid down. The valley is home to the Himba, one of the last true nomads in Africa.
